Shalford Football Club has run a Veteran's section for many years with our member's earliest recollections placing the side's origins as far back as the the early 1980's.
These days, the team is run on a casual basis and is geared around the playing of a few friendly fixtures on Sunday mornings throughout the season.
These fixtures tend to be as much social occasions as they are football matches and it is not uncommon to see players coming up against old familiar opponents who they have been competing against at various levels for 25 years or more.
What the general level of play at this level lacks in pace and energy is more than made up for by the quality of the banter and running commentaries to be heard around the field. "Get after it!" seems to be a favourite shout of all those players too far away from the ball to be expected to run after it. "No, can't!" is a frequent response.
