Introducing Shalford 'A' . . .

Shalford 'A' was established in 2001 to provide a regular game of football for the increasing number of players wishing to turn out for the club.

Originally based at Shalford Park and initially competing in the lower reaches of the Guildford & Woking Alliance League, the newly-formed side finished in mid-table in 2001/2 and again in 2002/3.

The following season saw the club accepting an invitation from the league for promotion to division 1 where under the guidance of new manager Gary Lenaghan the side continued to perform very creditably, finishing in mid-table in 2003/4 and again in 2004/5 when the side also reached the quarter-finals of the Surrey Lower Junior Cup for the first time.

With the squad looking stronger than ever, the 2005/6 season saw former first XI boss Duncan Niven appointed as manager and the club accepting another offer of promotion, this time to the premier division. The side comfortably held its own in its debut season in the top-flight and in 2006/7 Leigh Cleasby took over the manager's reins with high hopes of mounting a serious challenge for honours. Unfortunately, it was not to be and with several players drifting away, Shalford 'A' struggled in what was to prove a very competitive division.

The 'A' team remains an integral part of the club's overall football strategy which includes an ongoing commitment to provide our members with access to the highest possible standards of competitive local football.

The 'A' team's current ambitions include emulating the achievements of the club's 1st XI who won an Alliance premier league and cup 'double' as recently as 2001/2.
