Striker Sidelined . . .
15 Aug 2011

Striker Dan Akerman could miss the whole of the 2011/12 season after doctors confirmed that the 21 year-old hotshot has fractured his right foot. Akerman, who finished as the top scorer in SCILW Division 1 last term, picked up the injury in the pre-season fixture versus Ripley on 6th August and will be in plaster for at least six weeks.

Akerman joins reserves keeper Jake Fuller on the sidelines, the highly-rated Sunbury-based stopper also having broken his foot over the summer and looking unlikely to appear for the club during the season.

Boss Andy Walker has reacted to the news, saying: "Dan and Jake are both totally gutted and I feel exactly the same about the situation". He added: "Injuries are part and parcel of football but these two are such a big part of our plans and it's going to be much harder for us to achieve what we want to achieve this season without them involved".

Akerman and Fuller join Andy Ball on the club's long-term injury list, the ex Bracknell Town striker still recovering from knee surgery after suffering ligament damage in 2009. Ball will also miss the whole of the 2011/12 campaign but is confident that he will be able to return to the club in time for the start of the following season.

There is better news concerning the exciting and versatile Giles Muchenu who looks set to return to training this week after revovering from the hamstring strain he picked up at the end of July.
