Shalford went into this game knowing that a win against their local rivals would be the perfect way to end their preseason campaign, especially against the backdrop of a run of recent disappointing results.
The starting eleven had a similar look to previous weeks but again the lack of a regular keeper was evident. Young Sabi stepped up magnificently but Saraiva will be hoping to secure a more permanent goalkeeper as a matter of priority.
Jordan Pateman retained his place at the heart of the defence and he was partnered alongside Jordan Rousell, who normally plays at left back.
Matt Kelsing captained the side and Ed Cockcroft's recent performances earned him a start alongside Matt in central midfield. Tom Angus started up top alongside Ross Kirkland - Tom another player being given a chance to show what he can do in the First Team.
Shalford started promisingly in the first 25 minutes, but the concentration seemed to falter as the game progressed and this allowed the opposition to grow into the game.
The first goal for Burpham came fairly shortly before the half time whistle, Lee Ford slotting home with a left footed finish. Shalford had no chance with the second goal which came just after the restart - from within his own half, Christian Shaw has struck the ball sweetly, it has bounced over the young Shalford 'keeper and into the back of the net. A freak goal that probably killed the game as a contest.
Shalford did have a few chances but weren't clinical enough in front of goal, and on the whole, Burpham will probably feel they were good value for the win.
Shalford do now have a chance for redemption prior to the start of the league season. A last minute friendly has been arranged against Merrow A and will be played at Urnfield on Thursday 12th September, with a 6:15pm kick off.
First Team Manager, Clint Saraiva, still has a number of regular First Team players missing and the return of Pandeni Victor, Momodou Ceesay, James Hannigan and others will only strengthen the side going into the start of the league campaign.
